Regarding English, let us not be hypocritical. Employability in India, for more decent jobs and undertaking versatile and increasingly responsible jobs, wider abilities in English are needed. When one goes to the area of Indias demographic advantage and international employability, English is still more essential. A knowledge, science and technology India, an interacting India is built surely and firmly on the basis of English. And in view of these countrys, peoples needs, desires and widening perceptions and of course linguistic traditions and developments, politicians will do well to stop meddling and stop encouraging strife and parochialism and xenophobia. Let them stop being anti-English. They also should stop their unseemly and unwanted display of local language patriotism or so called language love publicity. English is becoming increasingly a local language in India in all the parts and states and, since India is inevitably a multilingual country, English has served and is serving well as a universal link language. Indian literatures in all their variety have grown and become national all because of the bridge provided by English; and template of literary criticism and value assessment is available because of the literary use of English and imbibing of international mores and methods spreading because of English. Without English, India will become, in the spheres of science, technology and knowledge otherwise, a Balkanised country and no Indian will desire or welcome this prospect. This report about the experiences of jail inmates and their preparations for future life and employment is very welcome and interesting. It substantially conveys what English can do to liberate individuals and make a new person out of them. Growth of various skills in persons, including social conduct skills, is facilitated by learning and using English.If a serious survey of opinion is attempted in Indias rural areas, desire for learning and using English is increasing; or, rural India will overwhelmingly vote for increasing a language dispensation exuding with a use of English. Despite the growth of English, Indian languages and literatures including a love for Sanskrit learning are growing in our country. English has been adding a new dimension of growth for Indian society and economy, no doubt. Let English grow in and with India. Jai Hind!
