Regarding some of your sirens sounding today: The siren policy - TopicsExpress

Regarding some of your sirens sounding today: The siren policy was changed a couple of years ago to include high-end severe storms with wind gusts expected to reach or exceed 70 mph. The philosophy is: if a weak tornado has 70 mph wind and wed sound the sirens for that, then we should also sound the sirens for 70 mph straight-line gusts that can do the same amount of damage. I try to explain this every time this happens, but itll take time for people to learn that the sirens mean take cover whether its a weak tornado or a very severe thunderstorm. Paul Gross
