Where The Jobs Are: Making sense of labour market information Workshops The Career Development Association of Australia funded by the Federal Department of Education is delivering workshops providing high-quality, relevant and up-to-date labour market to help you make sense of labour market information. The half-day workshop will: Give you the knowledge and confidence to locate, identify and interpret labour market information Show you how to apply this knowledge at a local and/or personal level Discuss employment trends, skills shortages, vacancies, expected growth in national and regional labour markets and other factors that should be considered when making career choices Connect you with local stakeholders and practitioners to exchange information and forge important networks For more information, visit cdaa.org.au/default.aspx?Page=Where+the+Jobs+Are RAMUS 2014 application round opens on 6 November 2013 The Rural Australia Medical Undergraduate Scholarship (RAMUS) Scheme assists selected students with a rural background to study medicine at university. The Scheme is aimed at increasing the number of Australian-trained doctors practising in rural and remote communities across Australia. The 2014 application round for RAMUS will open on 6 November 2013 and close on 13 January 2014. For more information, visit ramus.ruralhealth.org.au/home National Indigenous Culinary Institute - Indigenous trainee chef program The National Indigenous Culinary Institute (NICI) has again begun the search for Australias most promising indigenous chefs, today launching its 2014 indigenous trainee* chef program. The program is a unique initiative which connects restaurant industry icons and apprentices and has been designed by leading chefs, restaurateurs and food writers. Trainees are guided by well-known mentors including Neil Perry, Guillaume Brahimi, Matt Moran, Peter Doyle and Michael McMahon, who will provide advice throughout the process. Digital Enterprise program The Digital Enterprise program provides free group training and face-to-face support for small-to medium enterprises and not-for-profit organisations to help improve the way you do business and deliver services online. The Digital Enterprise program is helping small-to-medium enterprises to improve their productivity utilising new technologies, learn how to reach wider markets through an online presence, use videoconferencing more regularly and find ways to increase business efficiencies. More information about the Digital Enterprise program is available at communications.gov.au/digitalenterprise AWPA – Manufacturing Workforce Study The Australian Workforce and Productivity Agency (AWPA) is currently examining the workforce requirements of the manufacturing sector over the next decade. To encourage discussion, they have released the Manufacturing workforce issues paper. The aim of AWPA’s Manufacturing workforce study is to examine key factors affecting the workforce over the next five to 10 years, including changing demographics, opportunities arising from the Asian century, economic change, technology and human capital. The consultation paper: Development of a VET Graduation Statement aims to stimulate discussion and to identify potential design and implementation issues. Written feedback should be submitted to the AQF Council by close of business on Friday 15 November 2013. For more information, visit aqf.edu.au/ Skilled Migrant Women in Regional Australia Report The report, Skilled migrant women in regional Australia: Promoting social inclusion through VET, considers how vocational education and training can assist in achieving ‘social inclusion’ for skilled migrant families. This research report examines the underutilisation of the skills of migrants in regional areas, particularly women who are often the spouse of a primary applicant but are also skilled in their own right. It considers the interplay of the regional labour market, support services for migrants and the role education and training providers play in supporting the participation of migrants in the labour force and in other social activities. The brief draws on case studies undertaken in Emerald, Cardwell, Carisbrook and Marysville and presents a series of recommendations and focus areas for all tiers of recovery stakeholders, including Government, community and business. Developed to increase the quality of applicants, as well as up-skilling chefs and supervisors, the SkillsPathways Project provides on-going support and online monitoring of competency-based progress and milestones. The SkillsPathways Project is funded by the Australian Government under funds from the Accelerated Australian Apprenticeships initiative in partnership with Restaurant & Catering Australia. This report found that Australia was on track to halve the gap in child death rates within 10 years. Using a 5-star rating system, employers can rate the training they or their employees have received. Employers can rate their experience with a registered training organisation (RTO) in a particular area of study, and view and compare the opinions of other employers. Ratings are provided by business, for business.
