Registration is open for the 8th Annual PLU Powell-Heller Conference March 4-6, 2015. This conference is free and open to the public This years theme is Childrens Voices the Holocaust and Beyond. Designed in collaboration with Seattles Holocaust for Humanity and the Denver/Rocky Mountains Branch of Facing History and Ourselves this years schedule includes: screening of the Emmy- nominated film 50 children:The Rescue Mission of Mr. and Mrs. Kraus and a discussion with its director- producer Steven Pressman, New scholarship on the kindertransport in Czechoslovakia and the role of Polish nannies as caregivers for Jewish children. The Raphael Lemkin lecture will be given by Patricia Heberer- Rice of the Holocaust Memorial Museum Mandel Institute In Their Own Words: The World of the Child during the Holocaust. Included in the program is Facing History 101, a workshop for teachers and additional teacher training sessions includes sessions exploring the diary of Anne Frank and other diaries recently discovered. Alan Chernoff author and a former correspondent for CNN will be speaking about his book The Tailors of Tomaszow, a memoir and history of the survivors of his mothers hometown Tomaszow-Mazowiecki, Poland. Ela Stein Weissberger , child survivor of Terezin and performer in Brundibar will speak. A panel discussion on The Current Crisis: The Dehumanization of Refugee Children in the U.S will be moderated by Maria Chavez Associates Professor of Political Science at PLU. Panel includes: immigration attorneys Lourdes Fuentes and Norma Linda Urena and UPS Political Science professor Robin Jacobson and PLU student Angie Jimenez . Schlaf Mein Kind by Allan E Naplan will be performed by the PLU Womens choir during chapel . One can attend all or any part of the conference .
