Rejecting Taghoot is an obligation on every Muslim by: Sheikh Bishr Ibn Fahd al-Bishr Dear brothers and sisters, Rejecting the Taghūt [false gods, idols etc.] is the condition of Islam, and the fundament of the Shahadah [Testimony of Faith]. So the one who doesn’t reject Taghut can not be a Muslim. Like our prophet [Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wasalam] said: {“Whoever says La illaha illa Allah and rejects all that is worshipped besides Allah (i.e the Taghut), Allah has forbidden the taking of his property and the spilling of his blood; and his account will be for Allah.”} [Narrated by Imam Muslim in his Sahih] Therefore its compulsory upon every Muslim to learn the meaning of Taghut and the different types of Tawagith, especially in our time when Allah is testing the Muslims threw this [i.e Tawagith], it becomes one of the greatest obligations upon a Muslim. The leader of the Believers, ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab [Radiyallahu ‘Anhu] whom was given the gift of true inspiration, said: {“The handholds of Islam will break one after the other when people who are ignorant about Jaahiliyyah [pre-Islamic age] emerge in Islam.”} [Narrated by ibn Taymiyyah (ra) in Minhadj As-Sunnah 2/398 and 4/590] This means, due to his ignorance one could add some features of the Jaahilliyah to Islam, and reject some features Islam. Worse than this, he could battle against some principles of Islam and defend the principles of Jaahilliyah. And this actually occurred already. The Muslims have been tested with Tawaghith in this century after they have ignored the basic principles of their religion, after they have ignored with what Allah has sent Muhammad [Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wasalam] and after they have even ignored the meaning of “La illiaha illa Allah”. Hudhayfa ibn al-Yaman [Radiyallahu ‘Anhu] said: “The people used to ask Allah’s messenger [Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wasalam] about good, but I used to ask him about evil for fear that it might overtake me.” [Part of Hadith Bukhari & Muslim] And how nice when the poet said: I learned the evil, in order to protect me from it, and not to do it, Whoever can’t see the evil among good, he will fall into it When the importance of this issue has been understood, every Muslim should notice that the scholars of Islam [may Allah have mercy upon them all] concerned themselves with explaining the meaning of Taghut, revealing the truth about it, warning and advising the Umma against it and declaring enmity towards it. To fulfil his promise and duty. And the clarification of a matter my, beloved brothers and sisters is according to the Need. So every time a Fitnah [trial] occurs which came out with different types of the Tawaghith, Allah [Subhanahu Wata’Ala] prepares one of Ahlul ‘Ilm [people of knowledge], in order to face the fitnah and protect the religion. As Rasullu Allah [Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wasalam] said: {“There will always be a group of my Ummah who are apparent on the Truth, unabated by those who fail to oppose them, until the [Last] Hour commences.”} [Sahih Muslim] And the prophet Muhammad [Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wasalam] confirmed this by saying that: {“Verily Allah will send at the beginning of every century such a Mujaddid [reviver of Islam] for this Ummah who will restore Islam.”} [Sunan Abu Dawud, Malahim, 1] The more a scholar believes the ‘Aqeedah [doctrine] of the Salaf u Salih [Pious Predecessors], which the prophet [Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wasalam] and his companions were upon, and the more he deepens knowledge and knows about his reality and the current affairs of his time, the more he will concern himself with this issue and care about it. And when the Tawaghith appeared in the Muslim countries at the time of Sheikh ul Islam ibn Taymiyyah [Rahimahu Allah], the issue which he struggled against, and tried to explain and which he engaged himself in the most, was the issue of the Tawaghith. Therefore he talked a lot about the issue of worshipping things besides Allah and the abandonment of the Islamic Shari’ah in many of his books. So when the Tartars abandoned the Shari’ah, and some among the desert tribes began to rule and govern with the traditions and habits of their forefathers which contradicted Qur’an and Sunna, named by some of the Fuqaha as policies, ibn Taymiyyah warned the people against it, as well as his students ibn al-Qayyim, Ibn Kathir and others [May Allah be pleased with them all]. And [centuries] later when, Shirk [polytheism] and Bid’ah [innovation] have been widely spread on earth, and Dalalah [going astray] and Djahl [ignorance] increased, Allah prepared/sent Sheikh ul Islam Muhammad ibn Abdul-Wahab [Rahimahu Allah]. And after him Allah sent his students, so they exposed the different types of Tawaghith in which the Muslims of their time were busy with. Like the increase of worshipping things besides Allah, graves, Shayatin [demons], [dead] people believed to be Salihin [Reformers] and Awliya’ [Friends of Allah]. They also faced the increase of fortune tellers and magic in their time, the people also rejected/replaced the Shari’ah of Allah, so they saw it as their task to explain it to the people, warn against it, expose it, and unmask its falsehood. Then in our time the Muslims have been tested with the Kufr of ‘al-ilmaaniyah [secularism], and with ignorant and tyrannical laws which produced by the European-Christian Kufar. Allah the Almighty sent/prepared for this Ummah someone who will stand up against it and show the people the truth and evil of it, and explaining that its a nullifier of the foundation of Islam which is the Shahada “La illaha illa Allah”, and that [i.e. secularism] is the Taghut which is an obligation on every Muslim to reject it. This man who stood up against that was, the Imam of his time and the Sheikh ul Islam of his century, Sheikh Muhammad ibn Ibrahim [Rahimahu Allah]. Also the great Hadith scholar of our time, the Noble ‘Allamah Sheikh Ahmad Shakir [Rahimahu Allah] explained these things, and so did the Scholar of Qur’an and great Imam, Sheikh Muhammad al Amin as-Shanqiti the writer of ‘Adwaa ul-Bayaan’ [Rahimahu Allah]. And many great scholars of the Muslims everywhere in the world explained this issue, and still Allah Ta’ala is preparing and sending special people which he uses in His obedience, refuting the arguments and misinterpretations of the people of falsehood, and explaining the true meaning of the Deen of Islam to the Shabab [youth] and the following generations.
