Relationship about Type A and Type B personality on Coronary Heart - TopicsExpress

Relationship about Type A and Type B personality on Coronary Heart Disease. The Western Collaborative Group Study examined risk factors for Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) in a sample of 3000 healthy middle-aged men over a 27 year period. Follow-up occurred after 8.5 and 22 years. Results at 8.5 years showed that those men classified as having a type A personality had around twice the risk of developing CHD as those who were type B even after controlling for other risk factors including smoking and high blood pressure. Follow up after 22 years however indicated that type A behaviour no longer showed a significant relationship. Questions were asked that queried whether there was any correlation at all between CHD and type A (Ragland & Brand, 1985). Meta-analytic studies by Booth-Kewley & Friedman (1987), Matthews (1988) and Miller et al, (1996) raised queries about the methodological differences between the early and latter studies that brought about null findings.
