Relieved I made it as I rolled into the gas station on E in Verona, I told the gas attendant to fill her up! To my dread I realized my gas cap key was on my desk at home in Newark. Panic set in, there was no way I was going to make it back to Newark with this little bit of gas. But I had to try, even if I ran out somewhere, I had to try. My thoughts turned to where would be the worst places to run out? Which parts of the highway would be safe to conk out on? How would I traverse Newark if my car died on one of the side streets? Well praise the Lord He kept me: running on fumes made it back to Newark for the loathsome gas cap key and swung across the street to fill her up for $3.59 a gallon, cheaper than the gas station in Verona ($3.64) and the Mobile in West Orange ($3.84) I first blew off because the attendant was too slow and anyway wanted Dunkin Donuts at the Verona store.
