Remember tomorrow night, Tues., Jan. 27– FROM NORWAY BY BOAT TO THE MIDWEST by Barb and Ron Anderson The Andersons will tell the story of the Gasman family: In 1843, they traveled from Skien, Norway to New York; then up the Hudson River, along the Erie Canal, and finally across Great Lakes to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Ron’s great-great-great grandfather was Hans Gasman, a wealthy farmer who sold his large farm in Norway, packed up his family – his wife, 13 children, and 7 servants -- to sail to America. They sailed on the Salvator, which was captained by Hans’ brother, Johan. Johan wrote a detailed description of the journey through the Erie Canal in letters he sent back to Norway.
