Remembering 9/11 on the steps of the U.N. in NYC with Jeremy Gilley 1. World leaders signed Jeremy Gilley’s resolution to designate 9/21 as a day of cease-fire and nonviolence-The International Day of Peace (see his book below that was illustrated by Dallas local Pulitzer Prize winner Karen Blessen) 2. September 7, 2001 the U.N. General Assembly approved the resolution to be announced four days later. 3. As Jeremy Gilley and Kofi Annan were poised to announce to the world’s press that September 21st would be the International Day of Peace, at the U.N. in NYC four days later on 9/11, they saw the first plane hit the tower and they had to evacuate the U.N. 4. For the last thirteen years millions of children have been vaccinated and gotten medical aid as war torn countries laid down their arms, through Peace Day’s initiatives and collaborations with various parties, Peace One Day continues to encourage organizations and individuals to take specific actions to reduce violence around the theme: Who Will You Make Peace With? 5.
