Remembering Chuck Jenkin An Old Smokey has Passed Chuck Jenkin’s 35 year career with the US Forest Service began July 1950 on the Mt. Baker National Forest. He spent time as a fire lookout, trail crew member and on the road crew, but is best remembered for his many years as the mule packer for the Darrington and Mt Baker Ranger Districts. Those who knew Chuck will attest that if there is a trail on the north end of the Mt Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest he probably had a hand in building or maintaining it. Chuck, along with his wife Wilma, who accompanied him on almost every trip into the back country as head cook and wrangler, they lived between the towns of Darrington and Rockport for most of their lives. Chuck left this world and joined his beloved Wilma early January 2015 at the age of 82. A memorial service will be held March 14, 2015 at the Darrington Community Center.
