Report - Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham miss out on €10 million Bundesliga star Chelsea, Manchester United and City were also credited with an interest in South Korean Heung-Min Son; but he is on the verge of a move to Bayer Leverkusen. Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal were said to be ‘locking horns’ over his transfer a month ago while Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City have all been linked with him; so Hamburg SV forward Heung-Min Son certainly had plenty of big name interest in his services this summer. So when it was confirmed on Wednesday that he had rejected the latest offer of a new contract to remain at the Imtech Arena it was clear that there was certainly a very talented player up for grabs. Hamburg are one of the few teams in German football struggling financially and they need a sale in order to keep in touch with the Bundesliga’s big boys and therefore the sale of Son has become something of a priority; and an early sale is desired so they can start their own summer recruitment drive. And a player this talented at the age of just 20 is always going to be well sought after. The fact he scored 12 goals from 34 appearances this term also helps. He is also the new poster boy of South Korean football; creating massive marketing opportunities should Son play for your team. Brilliant he sounds perfect you can hear the Premier League big boys rubbing their hands and licking their lips now. But hold on because it appears that despite all the ‘interest’ in his services he will not be playing in the Premier League this season; in fact he will be staying in the Bundesliga. He has long been linked with Borussia Dortmund as a potential replacement for Robert Lewandowski; but they too have failed to snap him up. According to Bild Son’s move to Bayer Leverkusen is all but a foregone conclusion. They report that the South Korean international is today in Leverkusen to complete the ‘last formalities’ of a deal. Hamburg chairman Carl E. Jarchow explained the potential departure by stating: "We regret that, but need to accept it. We have been saying for weeks: either extended or Sun he goes. Just let his contract expire so never came into question. " He is now expected to replace Chelsea bound German international Andre Schurrle at the BayArena as soon as he puts pen to paper on a €3 million-a-year deal worth €10 million to Hamburg.
