Report from DZMM MANILA – An oil spill was spotted in the Sta. Ana, Manila and Pandacan areas of the Pasig River late Saturday night, with residents complaining of foul smell. Authorities who responded to the complaints discovered that the oil spill came from a compound warehouse located at 2667 Old Panadero Street, St. Ana. There were many oil tankers outside the warehouse, but there was no one in the area when the authorities arrived. Tanks of bunker fuel were scattered around the area. Authorities discovered that a pipe connected to a large tank burst and spilled oil straight to the Pasig River. Four men who were identified as workers in the area were asked by the police to give statements. A married couple, identified as Nevita and Melvin Ramos, was rushed to a local hospital after experiencing shortness of breath due to the foul smell. Both are now in stable condition. According to Gilbert Selestino, head of the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, the situation is now under control and they have closed the valve in the tank that led to the oil spill. Oil spill booms have been placed around the area and officials of the Philippine Coast Guard have been called to investigate the incident.
