Report from doctor: surgery went well. He removed the device placed in previous surgery he believes the device was causing the problem and was not routing fluid properly. He removed the remaining portion of the cyst and again closed the area with a synthetic patch rather than doing the skin graft. The lumbar drain was placed in his spine to allow fluid to drain and not build on his brain. This will remain in place for 5 days and will allow his brain to heal properly.he did not place a shunt at this time and is going to wait and see how his fluid flows once the drain is removed. If fluid begins to back up and causes swelling after drain is removed the shunt will then be placed to allow fluid to drain into stomach. Carson will remain in ICU for several days.
