Hyde founded it as a place to preserve the land as well as wild horses. The sanctuary’s Project Manager Susan Watt took an interest in Spanish mustangs and brought in a herd of these rare and intelligent horses. The mustangs thrive on 11,000 acres along the Cheyenne River. Tours are available. Their gift shop offers many books that describe the wild horse in American heritage. There is nothing comparable to being snuffled by a truly wild mustang, curious and cautious, approached with the guidance of sanctuary personnel...
