Reposted from Tyrell Haag: Though atheists often profess a sense of awe (I think of Carl Sagans habit of capitalizing the word Cosmos), its entirely inconsistent with what they actually profess to believe. If atheism is true, not only is there nothing to be in awe of, but awe itself is merely an arbitrary set of chemical reactions taking place within the brain that have no necessary connection with the state of affairs out there. For a consistent atheist (which none of them is), I have a sense of awe can only mean my brain chemicals burble under certain circumstances, which, okay, who cares? By professing awe, theyre trying to smuggle meaning into the universe through the back door. - John Rabe
