Request to FB friends to help this noble cause Relentless pursuit to re-build dilapidated school for the poor A dedicated school headmistress in rural Tamil Nadu on seeing the plight of students due to shortage of space, has decided to construct a new building to accommodate more students in a government school in a hamlet of Thuluvapushpagiri near Polur in Tiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu. There are seven to eight nearby villages and students living there are getting benefited by this school and currently the school is running in an asbestos sheet roof in about approximately 300 square feet area. Due to shortage of space and facility the children from the nearby villages are walking a minimum of 5 km to reach the school. The school project bloomed when a farmer and a retired Head Master of an elementary school from this village donated around 20 cents to construct the school. “We have a plan of building the school as per the guidance of the government norms. The approximate area of construction is around 2427 square feet, “ said D Meena Rajan, principal of the primary government school. The total cost of the project is estimated to be around Rs 35 lakhs out of which the Rotary Foundation has pledged to provide Rs 24 lakhs leaving a deficit of about Rs 11 lakhs. There are at present one class room without any basic needs with 36 students and more than 100 children will join this school once the construction is completed. We also require either in cash or in kind the following items for the benefit of rural children – flat panel television of 40“or more; a DVD player, audio system, projector, desktop and laptop computers and printers for the multi media center and reverse osmosis water purifier system. We plan to make it as a middle school upto eighth grade from primary school. No government fund is expected but the completed school will be handed over to the government after construction. “Its not a private or my own school but a purely free public school run by the government. For the past 40 years there is no building and no basic needs for kids. Now we are collecting funds and materials from friends and well wishers for this construction. I am also working as a teacher in this school,” she said. “I request the public to contribute to this noble cause with any amount you think right for this project your generous help will be used to educate the poor children and shape their future the right way,” she said.
