Rescue Tip- Adoption Contracts are so critical in keeping dogs - TopicsExpress

Rescue Tip- Adoption Contracts are so critical in keeping dogs safe post adoption. One can mandate per their adoption contract Retention of Ownership Rights - meaning- an adopter is NEVER able to give away a dog to anyone including a shelter, re-home, and or animal control. This helps protects a rescues dogs from almost any situation. If a rescue includes a Financial Penalty in adoption agreement if this is ever violated one never needs to threaten to sue. The rescue just takes to small claims court per their legally binding adoption agreement to collect their stated financial penalty. This combined with always ensuring the Rescue is Primary on the microchip is how a rescue can find out if their dog has ever been dumped. In addition, one can mandate the adopters always keep the Rescue tag with the Rescue Phone Number & ID number tag on their collar for life. I cannot tell you how many times over the years all of these items have prevented lost dogs from going to shelter, being killed @ shelter & get people talking if they have ever given a dog away. We can all always learn from rescues & do more to proactively protect the dogs we commit to for life.
