Respect Overseas Pakistani and do Economic Diplomacy: Nawaz Posted by: Calgary News Room Posted date: June 06, 2013 In: Diplomatic Activities, Feature | comment : 0 ISLAMABAD: Just after taking oath as the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Nawaz Sharif has directed all Pakistani missions abroad to “Respect and give honour to overseas Pakistanis”. According to PMLN insiders Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday issued guidelines to Ministry of Foreign Affairs to “change its priorities” and instead of hiring consultants for political lobbying, missions should give respect to overseas Pakistanis who can help a lot for economic diplomacy. Meanwhile, Foreign Office Islamabad issued a statement on Thursday stating that Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif has sent a message to all Heads of Pakistan Missions abroad. In his message to Pakistan mission, he said that the government will be guided by the wisdom of the people, the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the desire to see Pakistan acquire its rightful place in the comity of nations. Pakistan’s size and innate strengths should enable it to have a key role on the global scene. Heads of Missions and Embassies, that are our first line of defence and our primary interface with the outside world, have important roles to play to achieve this objective. The Prime Minister has also provided an outline of the priorities of the government on Foreign Policy to serve as basic guidelines for embassies/missions abroad. Prime Minister in his message maintained that effective economic diplomacy would require synergistic relationship between the Diplomatic Missions and the relevant stakeholders in Pakistan including Government Ministries as well as the business community at large. The Economic Ministries/Departments – i.e. Commerce, Finance, EAD and BOI must provide the requisite information and backup support needed by the Missions to undertake practical steps for facilitating traders and current and prospective investors at both ends.
