Response for Missing Child Cases Goes Regional The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office now holds the lead role as designated regional coordinators for the Southern Oregon Child Abduction Response Team. The Southern Oregon Regional Child Abduction Response Team (SO CART) is one of 20 nationally recognized teams in the nation, and the only team in Oregon. The agency just finished its recertification process. That process was extremely difficult and required training, policy change, and commitment to the safe return of children. The SO CART team is a rapid response and deployment team. In the event of a true child abduction where every minute matters, members of SO CART, including professionals from Lake, Curry, Josephine, Klamath, and Jackson counties in a variety of job titles, like law enforcement, DHS, prosecutors, mental health and others will come together in order to find the missing child. In addition, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has also implemented a regional AMBER ALERT call center. In 2013, the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office requested Jackson County take a larger leadership role. The two counties have worked together on Child Abduction Response Team cases since 2010. Since the change in leadership, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has offered two trainings for the group, one on the Amber Alert system and the other getting the national certification for CART.
