Result Sunday 2 November: Cliffoney Celtic 3 - Galway Bohs 1 17 years on from the Connacht Cup final and the last time these two teams met, Cliffoney Celtic entertained Galway Bohs in the Connacht Junior Cup and this game didnt disappoint. Cliffoney pressurised Galway Bohs from the word go and dominated the first half with some great football. The Galway side could thank their keeper at half time for keeping the scores at 0-0, making several fine saves and also saving a penalty. After missing several chances to score in the first-half, many teams could be excused for having their heads down for the next 45minutes, but the second half performance summed up Cliffoneys displays so far this season. Cliffoney began where they left off, creating chances and working hard all over the pitch. Cliffoneys perseverance paid off 10 minutes into the second half when Christy Keaney pounced on a mix up in the Galway defence and he made no mistake with his finish, finding the bottom corner of the net. It got even better for Cliffoney five minutes later when Alan Harrison took advantage of another mistake in the defence and he made the finish look easy, chipping the ball over the advancing keeper. Jamie Brennan came off the bench to make his debut for Cliffoney and he had a big part to play in the third goal, crossing the ball for Alan Harrison who scored his second of the game. Galway Bohs enjoyed some late pressure and scored a consolation goal in the last few minutes through Daniel Feeney. This late goal didnt spoil Cliffoneys day though as they inflicted revenge over Galway Bohs for defeat in the Connacht Cup final 17 years previous, and if the transition at Cliffoney at the moment isnt obvious enough, a number of Cliffoney players today hadnt reached their 1st birthday when these two teams last met. This win will see Cliffoney march into the third round of the Connacht Junior Cup.
