Reunion report: Or as Mama told my California sister on the phone en route to the reunion Well call yall latah with the particulahs when we know what they arah. 😂 Yes, those were her exact words. Allow me to translate for any of my Yankee friends who arent fluent in southern speak: We will call you later with the details. So here are the highlights according to me: 1. Mamas caramel cake & cousin Jennifers coconut cake tied for first place. 2. My 86-year-old Uncle Hewlett, who married into the family 63 years ago & who suffered a major stroke 5+ years ago, insisted on making a speech (with the assistance of a megaphone & a translator at times). His message in a nut shell: I have loved being a part of this family & I have loved my soul mate of 63 years. Lots of laughter & tears in the audience. An unforgettable tribute to his strength and their remarkable love story. 3. I did not win The Green Monkey Award (though I was nominated & was first runner-up). Thank goodness Aunt Lucile did something more stupid than me this year or it would have been a lifetime three-peat for me. But thats a whole nother story. ☺️ Get together with your folks every chance you get. One day youll be glad you did.
