Rewa to take Verevou’s case to arbitration Rewa Football - TopicsExpress

Rewa to take Verevou’s case to arbitration Rewa Football Association has expressed its disappointment over the suspension and fining of its star marksman Iosefo Verevou by the Fiji Football Association’s Board of Control and will be taking his case further. The BOC over the weekend handed a 3 year suspension and $5000 fine to Verevou and four other players of the Vodafone Fiji U20 squad who broke camp before the OFC U20 Championship in May. Rewa president Nazeel Buksh feels the decision by the parent body is unfair and fascist as Verevou is only 18-years-old and has a bright football career ahead of him. “A 3-year suspension is not acceptable – this will be the first in the history of not only Fiji soccer but in the world that a player is suspended from all levels of football because he broke camp.” “Rewa Football will not take this bullying tactics of Fiji FA and take the matter to arbitration. We will not let some people sitting behind a desk decide the fate of a kid’s future – we will not allow Fiji FA to kill Sefo’s bright soccer future,” he said. “Rewa football also was taken back with Sefo breaking camp as this would be the first time Sefo has committed any such act like this. But having said this Rewa Football also apologized to Fiji FA for the misbehavior of Sefo but they still went ahead to suspend him.” He said Verevou has always been a disciplined, hard working and willing to learn footballer and everyone deserves a second chance. “We don’t see why Fiji FA has come out so strong on this young boy. Missing out on World Cup Playoffs itself has been a big punishment to Sefo and his family considering the sacrifice he has made to be in camp and away from studies and his family.” “Today again Fiji FA is not valuing the sacrifices our young talents put in to play football – and this is one the reasons why it is becoming more difficult to attract young players in football.” Buksh added that Fiji FA should also be equally blamed for the incident as the player was in their custody and it was the responsibility of the team officials to ensure the players are supervised at all times. Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel said they had to come down hard on the players so other upcoming players do not repeat what the five players did just before the World Cup playoffs. He said the offence committed by the players was serious and the fine was not that harsh if it was to be compared against the offence of breaking camp. Rewa FA is expected to file its application for arbitration in the coming days. Meanwhile, no comments could be obtained from districts of the other four players. Avneel Kumar and Waisea Yavala are registered with Ba FA while Samuela Goro and Kelvin Naidu are registered with Lautoka FA. The quartet however are not registered in their senior district teams and have only played at high school and youth level competition. Source : FijiLive
