Right... here we go! WARNING!!!! VERY GRAPHIC CONTENT!!! WARNING!!!! WARNING!!!! WARNING!!!! Dont view, whilst eating.... So, as discussed, this here in the truest sense of the meaning, is a caesarean section. Why did I do it? Decisions in retrospective are easy, in this case here: The animal did pip 3-4 days ago. Over that time he didn’t really behave as can be expected, and today he was very weak. Also, when preparing the egg, it becomes clear, an animal sitting on this much yoke after 4 days… is in trouble. Showing minimal responsiveness when harassed it was clear… He’ll die, if I leave him like this. Only option: Get him out of there fast. I sometimes have hatchling just being what I call lazy, but they’ll be happily getting into gear, when they’ve leant… we’re not permitted to use our old egg as a hide. The trouble with a huge umbilical like this is… you can’t just cut it loose. There’s going to be loads of blood…if you did that. And the one thing an animal in serious trouble as it is can’t be doing with… is a massive loss of blood. So this one here will either make it now, or he will not.
