Robert Stevenson Smythe Baden-Powell was born in England on February 1857.His nickname at school was Bathing Towel and he amazed everyone by being able to use either hand equally well. At 19 he joined the army.In India and South Africa, he used interesting games to train young men in military scouting. When BP went home to england he tried out his ideas on boys who enjoyed the games and wanted to know more. So in 1907 he took a group to camp on Brownsea Island and Scouts was born.They were named after the early Scouts of Africa.After the camp BP published his games in a book called Scouting for Boys. GIRLS wanted to join too. They gate-crashed a Scout Rally at Crystal Palace in London in 1909. BP hadnt thought about GIRLS as Scout but his sister Agnes organised them.They were names Guides after an Indian regiment and the mountain guides of Switzerland. In 1912,LBP married Olave St. Clair Soames who shared the same birth date. Olave became the World Chief Guide and travelled the world.LBP died in 1941 and is buried at Nyeri in Kenya. Lady BP promoted Guiding and Scouting until her death in 1977. Boy Scouts and girl guides of Smk Sri Sentosa have been very loving brothers and sisters for so many many years.We help each other, we support each others and we care for each other. 2014 is our 25th Anniversary. I am here to wish my school girl guides Happy 25th Anniversary. On August 2nd the brother scouts will be having their campfire in our school compound.I m very sure many girl guides will support this campfire.Wishing the boy scouts all the best. May you have a very fun n successful campfire. These few months i also heard from a few parties that the boy scouts of smk Sri Sentosa going to recruit some girls of smk sri sentosa to join the scouts.Tuck Ken , you are ex boy of smk sri sentosa. I m sure you know very well how close we boy scouts and girl guides of smk sri sentosa. Eric is not from sri sentosa, may be he doesnt understand our bonding.
