Rockets defeat Mavericks 117-115. Houston improves to 31-17 and drop Dallas to 26-21. This game was tight until the Rockets built a 12 point lead at 116-104 with less than two minutes remaining in the game but the Mavs converted on six straight free throws on two three point fouls to cut the lead to six. Dallas would have a 11-1 run with eight free throws and one three pointer. A Rockets turnover while trying to inbound the ball gave the Mavs the ball trailing by two and less than 20 seconds remaining. Jose Caldaron missed two threes which potentially would have given the Mavs the lead but the Rockets held on for their first win in Dallas since December 2009 snapping a seven game losing streak there. Chandler Parsons led Houston with 26 points and Jeremy Lin had 21. Dwight Howard had 16 points and he was 9-11 from the free throw line. Red Nation had seven players in double figures scoring. Dirk Nowitski led all scorers with 38 points. Rockets and Mavs split the season series 2-2 with each team winning once on the others floor. Having beaten the Spurs last night this is the first time since April 1989 that Houston has beaten Dallas and San Antonio in back to back nights in any order. Rockets are 5-2 against their in state rivals and are guaranteed their first winning record combined against those teams for the first time since the 1997-1998 season when they had a 6-2 record. Houston shot 55% from the field tonight and held Dallas to 5-19 from the three point line. Rockets are now 12-10 on the road this season. They are 11-4 within the Southwest Division and 9-4 on the second night of a back to back. James Harden sat out again tonight with a left thumb bruise. He also missed last nights win over the Spurs. Rockets only dressed eight players tonight.
