A volunteer writes: Youd never know it to look at her glossy coat and perfect figure but beautiful Sheba arrived at the Care Center as a stray, brought in by police before awaking lost and afraid in an unfamiliar kennel. Her past may be a mystery but in the here and now shes a genuine heartbreaker and those yearning amber eyes haunt me long after weve parted. Gorgeous and fragile, friendly though timid, Shebas a bashful beauty who startles easily and cowers from a raised hand yet gives out the sweetest little snuffle-lick-kisses and enjoys being petted and fussed over as much as the next dog. She walks well on leash (though entering the elevator takes a bit of coaxing) and does her business outside before I set her free to explore the yard, a job she takes very seriously indeed! Sheba loves to snuffle her way around and no piece of trash is too small or leaf too flattened to escape her keen interest. Treats are mouthed from my hand with the lightest touch and while its clear a photo session is not her idea of a good time, she humors me as best she can, looking up for a few shots then trying to make herself as small as possible by crouching low and hiding behind my legs. Sheba trembled through her behavior evaluation and her fear is such that its hard to tell whether her strong reaction to another dog was the real Sheba talking or just a defensive front. Only the most gentle, kind and patient home will do for such a sensitive young girl and no one deserves a happy ending more than Sheba. Just imagine how rewarding it will be to give her the safety and security she craves, to show her that she has a place in the world and assure her that she will be loved, now and for the rest of her life.
