Rosie shares: Hi everyone, how often do you wish people just had more awareness and understanding of your childs autism? Not just strangers but people often really close to you? Grandparents/mother-in-law?! My son is nearly 17 (diagnosed with autism at 3). Im a photographer and am in the process of putting together a book called Understanding Stanley - looking through autism. Its like a visual reference book about autism and doesnt require somebody to sit down and read a text book on the subject. (My thinking is that all those text books are great, but theyre preaching to the converted. Theres no way that the vast majority of the people we all come across who havent and are not likely to give autism a second thought, are going to sit down with a text book to find out more!). My book is a mixture of pictures of Stanley alongside images of objects that represent autism characteristics and experiences. It will help people get, in a visual way, what life might be like for someone with autism. Ive had some fantastic feedback so far, just wondering what all you fabulous autism mothers might think of a book like this...? Thank you. I love this group!
