Round 8 - Oulton Park It was always going to be a tough weekend...then I had to go and make it ten times harder! After a great season so far GB Motorservices let me put an entry in for motogrande on their 675. I went out in the test sessions on friday morning to try and learn the track and the bike. It was going well and I was picking up the pace a bit and feeling good on the 675. In the afternoon it was qualifying, I managed to get the triumph qualified in 9th in the pre national 600 class. Then it was onto the MC SS evo qualifying on the GSXR. I managed to get a time good enough for 1st in class before having a very big fast crash at Island bend. unfortunately the bike was totally destroyed. Thankfully I came out of it fairly unscathed which is very lucky for a 100mph crash!! Massive apologies to the guys at GB for wrecking the bike and to Mart for making the endurance race a lot more complicated! Big thanks to Gary and Martyn for letting me carry on racing using their bike for MC Supersport and the endurance! we managed to qualify 26th for the endurance race which we were happy with. On the saturday it was the endurance race first. We had a good start and we were running in 25th. A third of the way into the second stint the gear lever snapped so we lost a few laps sorting that out! After that we managed to get back into a bit of a rhythm and we were creeping back up. Unfortunately towards the end of hour 2 Mart had a little tip off so we lost a bit of time again. Luckily (for us) there was a safety car near the end so we were able to make a change over with no real time loss and managed to make up two places before the end! we both enjoyed the race a lot and an endurance race is definitely something I would do again. In the afternoon was the sprint races, first up was Pre national 600s on the triumph. I was a bit disappointed with my result in this race, struggling a bit after the crash and the endurance race and having a slipping clutch I didnt quite manage the pace I had hoped for making a couple of mistakes and coming home in 8th. The second motogrande race was much the same for me, again coming home in 8th place. In the first MC Supersport race I had a good start but struggled a bit again making good pace, managed to come home 3rd in class but a bit off the pace. In the second race I was feeling a bit better after a break and I was ready to give it a go for the last race of the day! I had a very good start and managed to get away with the front guys which brought my lap times down a fair bit straight away. After putting in lap times within a tenth or so each lap I was able to bring in a 2nd position which I was over the moon with. Pleased to have done some good times on a standard bike and especially pleased to have wrapped up the 2014 MC Spersport evo championship at the penultimate round! Massive thanks to Nige and Phil from GB Motorservices for their unbelievable help and support throughout the season, Gary from Leanangle.co.uk for all the help (and accomodation!) and to Martyn and Don for their big help. Thanks to everyone else who has helped all year long too, far too many to mention!! Jonboy #86
