Runner with chief complaint of hamstring tightness. Check the - TopicsExpress

Runner with chief complaint of hamstring tightness. Check the usual suspects, and glute max is non functional. Then he tells me his calf muscles also cramp up. Again no glute max. Then he tells me hes had a bulging lumbar disk. Again no glute max or lumbar multifidi. Because of that dysfunctional glute max his hammies, calves, and lumbar spine overworked to create stability when running. His lumbar multifidi being absent was no surprise either. With low back pain they are often dysfunctional and atrophy faster than almost any other muscle in the body. Image courtesy of Anatomy Trains.
