Running for weightloss In my opinion running is fantastic and has a massive array of benefits but is not the ideal starting point for most people due to its high physical demands. In an ideal world everybody who wants to run should partake in a 8-12 week strength and conditioning programme first. Running puts 3 to 7 times your bodyweight through your body with each stride so you need good core strength, hip mobility and stability throughout the lower body to absorb the impact without the risk of injury. A good strength and conditioning programme will help improve technique, reduce injuries and niggles and lead to better transfer of force with each stride. All runners need to include S&C as part of their training programme yet most neglect this area and end up getting injured with badly beat up joints, tight muscles and postural abnormalities. If you would like to know more about specific training for running get in touch with me and we can devise a training plan and teach you how to lift weights safely and effectively to gain the most benefit.
