SA deal for iPhone 6 Cape Town - Apple has launched its new iPhone and while it may be a while before South Africans can pop in to buy one, the iStore is already offering a deal for early upgraders. The iPhone 6 range was launched on Tuesday and immediately set tongues wagging because the three devices were announced. Apple introduced the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, and Watch. All announcements were widely expected and the phones should go on sale on 19 September, with pre-orders opening on 12 September. However, local retailer the iStore has announced discounts for South Africans who upgrade their older model iPhones. If you have an iPhone 5s and you upgrade to the iPhone 6, you can expect R5 000 on a trade-in, the iStore said. That drops to R4 000 for the 5c or 5, 2 500 for the 4S, all the way down to R1 500 for the iPhone 4. SA price The deal is valid until the end of February 2015. But what will the new iPhone cost? US operator T-Mobile hints at that million dollar question with an announcement on its ordering page that lists the iPhone 6 starting at $649 going up to $949 for the iPhone 6 Plus 128GB with no contract. While that may imply a retail of around R10 000 in SA for the most expensive iPhone, it may not be a true reflection of reality when the devices land here. On contract in the US the iPhone costs around $200, but in SA, the 5s was around R469 from the major operators. It is unclear how many South Africans who bought the iPhone 5s can afford to upgrade, given the majority may still be enjoying the new phone smell. Despite the price, for those who have much older models, the iPhone 6 series, which is finally equipped with features like NFC for payments, a larger screen, and voice calling over LTE, it may be a compelling case. #KT
