SABBATICAL NOTES. 4 MARCH 2014. N10. Believing in the love of others. I HAVE ALWAYS believed in the love of others. I have not doubted other peoples intentions, and I have been blessed so far. Even as I was away doing things for the Philippines, and gallivanting elsewhere under the pretext of writing a novel--yes, that is the grand excuse!--I did not know that my wife was going under the knife for a cyst they found out to be the reason why she had those stomach troubles: a cyst in the ovary. So for several days, I could not get hold of her, and only the children were responding to our Ohana PM--yes, that PM group we have as family--and everyone of the Agcaoili kiddos was simply elusive when I ask of their mom. She went to the lab things as required by her doctor, and that was all I got to know, and then today, this morning, I saw flowers on my sisters FB wall, and I thought, these are the clues. I had other clues two nights ago when I ask my son where and how is his mom, and he responded with a crisp one liner and said just simply, It is midnight over here, pop, and let me talk to you tomorrow. I was having an almost five hours of layover in Zurich, and I was helping a person with connecting flights problem to Oslo, and had to brush off those close. Now, now, the disclosures: the children and all of my entire Honolu ohana connived to not tell me anything to spare me from the worries while on transit from my mind to other places, from my sense of the artistic to working with something concrete on the page. My ohana had understood how difficult it is to write, and they all spared me from worrying about the mundane so I can write, so I could write, so I could gallivant. I am dumbfounded--still am, and I cannot thank them enough even as I try to shake off this cold weather in Valencia even at noontime. VALENCIA/ 4 March 2014, 12 Noon
