SALUTE TO AUDIE MURPHY: The Third Infantry Division and Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield salutes one of our Nation’s most decorated Heroes, Lt. Audie Murphy, who died this day in 1971. While serving with the 3rd ID, Sgt. Audie Murphy’s (Who was later promoted to Lieutenant) went above and beyond the call of duty, and earned every decoration for valor that this country offered, in addition to the Congressional Medal of Honor, and five other decorations presented to him by France and Belgium.
