Wen u dey address us for Asaba dis na ur statements, my first thanks goes to my Governor, who found me worthy on the 7th of July 2011 to appoint me as Commissioner for Housing, he noted. According to Chief Akpeki, all this while a lot has been done in the housing sector, which includes the first mandate to ensure the completion of all ongoing projects, one of the policy thrust of the administration. The Commissioner noted that Ministry of Housing is not only to build Houses but to complete all ongoing projects as well as maintain existing ones. In this regards, the administration of Governor Uduaghan has renovated a lot of government properties for instance we have been able to maintain twenty two duplexes which are presently housing the commissioners in Delta state and there is a new lease of life at the estate. There are other facilities there, including a long tennis court and a gym amongst others. We also went ahead to renovate and maintain the House of Assembly quarters, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker quarters, as well as for staff. We also went ahead to renovate and maintain the House of Assembly offices and complex. In his words the Ministry of Housing is not meant to build houses alone, but consult for other ministries under the building industry in Delta state, build public buildings with offices in the state such as secretariats and offices for establishments. He explained that Delta State is big with twenty five local governments, noting that, we dont only build houses in Delta state, we cover the country. As at today Delta State has one of the biggest tallest building in Abuja called Delta Towers. Chief Akpeki disclosed that the government awarded that contract in 2006 but because of the trust and support of Dr Uduaghan, he is privileged to complete the building now which has been commissioned and by the grace of God the edifice was commissioned in April. We are also putting up a government lodge in Lagos which is on the verge of completion, as well as other offices in Warri, Sapele. Delta state is a complex state unlike other states that have one urban city while Delta has not less than fourteen urban cities. When people talk of Delta they dont know that the state is not just Asaba, we have other urban centres. Asaba today is the fastest growing Capital in Nigeria, with an international Airport which was created in 1991 and today we have one of the best Airport. Today there are roads in places like Agbor which has taken a different dimension, and there is “the owner occupier houses ” for civil servants in the state to be paid for over a period of time.
