SC BAROQUE FESTIVAL PERFORMS COMPOSITION BY COMPOSER ROBERT STRIZICH Location: UCSC Recital Hall Date & time: Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 7:30 PM Concert titled “Baroque Inspirations”, performed by Lux Musica, presents Opulent French Music from the court of Louis XIV by Marin Marais, which will be played on the following Baroque instruments: flute, violin, cello and harpsichord. In addition, Artistic Director Linda Burman-Hall and Lars Johannesson will perform Strizichs earlier work Tombeau for harpsichord and baroque flute. The Ninth Annual ‘Youth Chamber Music Contest’ awards will be presented to the following young artists: The Grand Prize Winners for “Classical Piano Trio” are Stanley Wang, Violin; Marc Picard, Cello; and Derek Hamersly, Piano. These are students of Cynthia Baehr, assisted by coaches Judy Roberts and Kumiko Uyeda, performed works of Joseph Haydn: Gypsy Rondo (3rd Movement) and Felix Mendelssohn: Molto allegro ed agitato (1st Movement). The Second Prize Tie “Celebrating Youth Weber Trio” are Mira Huang, Flute; Willow Lark, Cello; and Nathan Lewis, Piano - who performed the Trio in G Minor, Op.63, movements 2 and 3 by Von Weber. These students were submitted by Ivan Rosenblum, head coach and teacher Vlada Moran, and teachers Kathleen Purcell, and Aude Castagna. The other Tie Winner was for the “Bach Duo”, Sonata in C minor, Adagio-Allegro (3rd & 4th movements) was performed by Laura Wang, Violin; and Derek Hamersly, Piano. This entry was submitted by Cynthia Baehr, teacher/coach and assisted by coach Susan Bruckner. Honorable Mention went to a Violin/Piano Duet by Ludwig Von Beethoven, Sonata #4 in A minor Presto (Movement 1) performed by Christina Dooka, Violin; and Christina Gasparich, Piano. This entry was submitted by Alice Talbot, teacher and coach. The above winners will be honored at an awards ceremony at the Festival’s March 15th concert held at the UCSC Recital Hall. The Grand Prize group is invited to perform their Haydn selection at the beginning of the first half of the concert. Each member of the winning ensemble will receive $100 (total $300). All the participants and coaches will be concert guests of the Baroque Festival.
