SCENARIO: I need surgery to my vocal cords. This is scheduled for Apr 28. In the meantime and post surgery, I have had to cut the gigs Im doing, as very limited pre surgery and not allowed to sing for 6 weeks post surgery. I organise the surgery through our health insurance. I ASSUME that ACC would cover 80% of the gigs that I am missing out on/have missed out on/will miss out on if I can prove the income lost. Today they inform me that the only way I can get any compensation from them is to lodge a claim, and if approved, they will then pay for the surgery and provide compensation. Catch is that it will put off the surgery at least 6 weeks, and that there is no guarantee that they will approve it anyway. Even though its quite clearly a result of the work I do. Advice?
