SCNC Reaction To So-called 50th Anniversary Of Reunification Friday, July 05, 2013 By Theodore Leke & Roxana Anu Tazifor (SCNC Activists) CameroonPostline -- To begin with, there is nothing Mr. Biya and his Francophone nation (La Republique du Cameroun) can show to Southern Cameroonians or the world that the two individual Trust Territories of the United Nation are one nation. According to a report called “Historians and Constitutionalists Panel Say Reunification Was Illegal” filed on the internet from Yaounde by Sylvanus Ezieh (CJ) on April 5, 201,3 and reposted by Mark Bara for wider circulation, historians and constitutionalists assembled in Yaounde on that date for a conference/debate on the theme; “The Case of Cameroon at the UNO”, organised by the commission in charge of studies, conferences and debates for the celebration of 50 years of independence of Cameroon. The approximately 800 participants included Julius Victor Ngoh, Professor of History at the University of Buea; Magloire Ondoa, Professor of Public Law and Constitutional Specialist; Micahel Ndobengang, Professor of History; Abel Eyinga, eyewitness at the UN during reunification debate and Doctor of Military History, and Emmanuel Pondi, Specialist in International Relations. The esteemed panelists importantly made a declaration at the end of the deliberation, that no legal documents were established at the time of reunification to bind them in union. This is a position that the LDA of Mola Njoh Litumbe has championed for decades and is published in a bilingual booklet titled “The Annexation of the former British Administered UN Trust Teriritories of Southern Cameroons. What happened at th UN leading to the Febraury 11, 1961 plebicite was simply international conspiracy against the God-fearing and peace-loving Southern Cameroonians. The UN contradicted its article 76 B as concerns the termination of trusteeship agrement. You cannot ask a trust territory to attain independence by joining an already independent nation such as La Republique du Cameroun which gained independence on Januaury 1, 1960 and Nigeria on October 1, 1960. Where in the world does one country or nation have two different independence dates declared by the UN on Jaunary 1, 1960 in the case of La Republique du Cameroun, and October 1, 1961 for ex-British Southern Cameroons. All attempts by hired stooges and lackeys from Southern Cameroons, be it Prime Ministers or Heads of Government, have failed and will continue to fail. The term “Head of Government’ is decietful because he is not an executive Head of Government, as it is the case with Great Britain, Canada and India. These Southern Cameroonians, some of them in political parties, have been adivised by the SCNC time without number, to learn from history. They know very well what our parents did in 1953 in the Nigerian Eastern House Assembly. They were historically and legally not part of Nigeria. It is the same situation we have been facing for 54 years since we came out of Nigeria. Even if it takes 500 years, it will not happen. Distortion of Historical Facts The term reunification is misleading and confusing. After the defeat of the Germans in the First World War in 1914-18 by the French and the British forces and with the formation of the UN in 1945, a complete new situtaion emerged whereby all the territories previously under Germany such as the French Cameroons, ex-British Southern Cameroons, Tchad, Gabon, Equatorial Guniea became Trust Territories of the UN and wrer mandated to be administered and prepared for independence. These countries had, since, become independent nations and members of the UN as sovereign nations. The fact that we have the same name Cameroon, does not make us one country; there were two Congos, three Guineas, two Koreas. If, for example, Odemegwu Ojukwu had succeeded in the 1966 Biafra War to break away from the Federal Republic of Nigeria and became a recognised country by the international community and for some reason or the other, decided to go back to their mother country as it was in 1960, then, historically and leagally speaking, this would be called reunification. The previous act being secession. Southern Cameroonians are not secessionists as Mr. Biya and his minions want the ignorant Southern Cameroonians to believe. How can you seceed from what does not exist in legal terms or reunite when there is no such document binding the people - in this case, a union treaty sanctioned by the assembilies of two uniting countries and spelling clearly the terms of the union and checks and balances; if one pary does not implement or respect the terms of the treaty. Njoh Litumbe calls it Njumba Marriage. Paul Ayah has, in many interviews and publications, spoken out about the illegality. The so-called reunification exists but in the sky and not on earth. If, for 54 years of the illegal union and 20 years of the formation of the SCNC, Southern Cameroonians have not learnt their lesson, then, when shall they do so? Koffi Annan, the then Secretary General of the UN, during his official visit to Cameroon in May 2000, requested Mr. Biya to have dialogue with the SCNC. Thirteen years after, there is no response. The African Union Human Rights Commission in The Gambia came out with the verdict in November 2009, giving Biya 180 days to open up with the SCNC. Four years after, there has been no response but the Green Tree Accord is being implemented. The AAC I and ACC II of Buea and Bamenda in 1993 and 1994, respectovely, requested for dialogue. But 20 years after, there has been no response. The rejection of the Southern Cameroonian, John Fru Ndi, who won the 1992 Presidential election, is a glaring example that no Southern Cameroonian can have access to the Presidency of the so-called united country called Cameroon. The manipulation has worsened since then. Look at what happened recently in FECAFOOT and the Senate. Look at the way Southern Cameroonains are suffering. Economically, since the announcement of Mr. Biya’s visit, destruction of shops and closure of businesses in the Southern Camerooons galore. Dr. George Atem’s book titled, “How United Is The Republic of Cameroon?” tells the story. While Fracophones are being appointed, Southern Cameroonians are being given State burial mostly in appreciation for their role in perpetuating the annexation of their own country; Southern Cameroons.
