SCRUB FIRES 04 May 1940 Bungendore Outbreak Canberra Times Approximately 160 acres of bush country on the foreshore of Lake George, between Gearys Gap and Bungendore were burnt by a fire which broke out about 5 p.m. on Saturday. The fire spread quickly through the tinder-dry bush and at one stage appeared likely to become serious. However in response to appeals for volunteers, many fire fighters from the surrounding districts, Canberra and Queanbeyan, proceeded to the scene during Saturday night with the result that the outbreak was brought under control.
