SEAMUS HEANEY; THE GREATEST IRISH POET SINCE YEATS DIES AT 74. I am resolved to read his poetry. Earlier, I had made some meager attempt to do so. Poetry for me at least in the abstract is what I think is the most intimate art. And yet I avoid reading poetry. Poetry was part of my undergraduate curriculum but reading poetry has not been part of my life. I am resolved to amend my lazy ways. Since college, even Shakespeare has been neglected by me. Poetry demands so much mulling over, quiet reflection and active imagination. I find I read several novels and several philosophy books instead. Perhaps it is all that philosophy, not to mention psychology, that has ruined me -:) What kind of lazy would-be-contemplative I have been.
