SERIOUS NOW!!- Consider the MORANT BAY REBELLION and the people that were involved--500 people who gave their lives for our freedom so that Governor Eyre could be tried and fired and Crown Colony installed, which eventually led to independence--SUBSEQUENTLY MORE STRUGGLES --AND THE COMMON ONE--the eruption across the Caribbean between 1934 - 1938--as far as Belize. We as Caribbean people should have been welded in an unbroken bond, sealed by the blood and sweat of our ancestors in their quest for justice. I still hear talks of selfishness among the supranational, the still-colonized and the independents Caribbean. Just last week I was told by reliable sources that Bermudians --with this air of superiority--are still pouring contempt on the others; the Bahamians are relentless in their snobbery and Trinidad is acting like an affluent family member that finds his sibling an embarrassment. People, for the survival of the Caribbean, FEDERALISM is urgent and necessary NOW more than in 1958. It is extremely urgent given the obvious effects of Globalization and Structural Adjustment versus the unpreparedness of our people. The sure effect will be a reduction in many Caribbeans islands to welfare states, irrespective of how sufficient they now appear. Just last night I was examining December 2013 report of the Caribbean Basin Initiative and the only countries with a positive Balance of Trade are Aruba and Guyana. What was supposed to be our savior was overshadowed by NAFTA and its preferential treatment to Mexico; leaving many of these islands with less hope. Now globalization / structural adjustments eats away at the existence of Caribbean peoples and will be worse in years to come if no favorable change. If you thought the 1930 was bad, wait for the fall out on this one. People must now realize that the survival of every individual in the Caribbean rest not with each approaching the problem in singular but by a collective effort.
