It was originally touted as a laundry booster in the 1890s and over the last century has been useful in many different ways. How to Clean With Vinegar & Borax 1) Cleanser Borax can replace the expensive sink cleaners and cleansers . A paste of borax, a little lemon juice and warm water on a sponge, with a little rubbing, can remove even rust stains from sinks and soap scum from tubs and showers. Dishes Some dishwashers leave water and detergent spots on dishes and glasses. A tablespoon of borax in the detergent cup along with your regular dishwasher detergent should help stop the spotting. Also, a paste of borax and water will clean stains and spots on aluminum cookware. 2) Insecticide Borax is effective for killing roaches, ants and fleas. Sprinkle it around the perimeter of the home, near the foundation, to create a barrier. Keep away from landscaping, however, as it could harm your plants. Carpets 3) Borax can be used as a stain remover on carpets. Mix it with a little water and gently rub the stain. Allow it to dry and then vacuum. It can also be sprinkled, dry, over your carpet as a freshener. Leave it for about 20 minutes, then vacuum. Odor Control 4) Mix borax into the litter in your cats box. Sprinkle a small amount on the bottom of your garbage can. Pour a handful down the kitchen drain, let sit for a few minutes, then flush with hot water.
