SHAYNE NEUMANN WELCOMES APPOINTMENT OF GENERAL PETER COSGROVE AS GOVERNOR- GENERAL The Federal Member for Blair, Shayne Neumann today welcomed the appointment of General Peter Cosgrove as Australia’s next Governor-General. Mr Neumann described General Cosgrove as a worthy successor to Quentin Bryce whose five year tenure ends in March. “General Cosgrove is a person who I believe will make an important contribution to the position of Governor- General in this country. “He is a capable, eminent and respected Australian who reflects the best of Australia and its people. “These character traits have been ably demonstrated by General Cosgrove who served as chief of the Australian Defence Force from 2002 – 2005 and, a year later, came out of retirement to oversee reconstruction efforts in the wake of Cyclone Larry, which devastated parts of far north Queensland.” “I congratulate General Cosgrove on his appointment and believe he will make a first class Governor- General who will be following in the footsteps of another first class Governor-General, Quentin Bryce,” Mr Neumann said.
