SHERIFFS OFFICE WARNS OF PHONE SCAM Last week, the El Paso - TopicsExpress

SHERIFFS OFFICE WARNS OF PHONE SCAM Last week, the El Paso County Sheriffs Office was investigating two incidents of fraud which involved impersonation of a Deputy Sheriff. On both occasions, the victims received a phone call where the caller identified himself as a Deputy from the El Paso County Sheriffs Office. The suspect told the victim they owed a fine and a credit card must be provided for payment. During each of these incidents, the victim called the originating number back and it returned to an internal number at the Sheriffs Office. The suspect is using a smart phone app where you can enter a number other than your own so the recipient of the call believes it is coming from somewhere else. The Sheriffs Office wishes to remind citizens that our Office NEVER calls and asks for money to be paid over the phone for any reason. If you have information about these events or have experienced something similar, please call the El Paso County Sheriffs Office Communications Center non-emergent line at 390-5555.
