SICKENING AND UNACCEPTABLY SAD! About an hour ago I walked onto my balcony in Osu and witnessed an elderly lady bathing in the gutter. She had brought a bag with toiletries in it and standing in the filthy gutter, proceeded to wash herself. When she finished to got out, dried herself, cleaned her slippers and walked away down the road. This should be looked at with all the seriousness it deserves. This should not be happening at any time and certainly not in 2014. We need to look to ourselves as a nation, analyze our value systems and levels, decide on where we stand globally, where we have set or not set the bar and understand whether we are moving forward or regressing! We need to look at how we were brought up and recognize that this lady is someones mother/sister/daughter and given the importance of womanhood in our society and indeed to our very beings, whether this malaise is acceptable! We can talk of disease, we can talk of water and infrastructure problems... there are many things we can debate BUT the fact is that this SORT of thing invariably transcends political parties. Our public officers for years, if not decades, have let us down badly! Their sense of importance to the basic fabric of life for the ordinary/average person has been and is virtually zero! There must be a level of responsibility for the sanctity of life, which MUST come before everything else otherwise those in control have failed us! Sadly I have never been convinced of a process in which the only consequence of incompetency and general dereliction of duty is to give the baton to someone else to try their luck! Surely the consequences must be more life threatening. As the lady walked down the street my heart bled in the knowledge that she was someones child and perhaps anothers mother. The question was, what drove her to this and over what period? What level of insanity and hopelessness did this picture depict? God please help us to at least understand and adhere to your single most important principle that ensures peace and well being amongst us all ............ Do to others as you would have them do to you. - Luke 6:31 (NIV) So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. - Mathew 7:12 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. - Romans 13:8 Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. - Romans 13:10 The Universality of the Golden Rule in the World Religions Christianity All things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye so to them; for this is the law and the prophets. - Matthew 7:1 Confucianism Do not do to others what you would not like yourself. Then there will be no resentment against you, either in the family or in the state. Analects 12:2 Buddhism Hurt not others in ways that you yourself would find hurtful. Udana-Varga 5,1 Hinduism This is the sum of duty; do naught onto others what you would not have them do unto you. Mahabharata 5,1517 Islam No one of you is a believer until he desires for his brother that which he desires for himself. Sunnah Judaism What is hateful to you, do not do to your fellowman. This is the entire Law; all the rest is commentary. - Talmud, Shabbat 3id Taoism Regard your neighbor’s gain as your gain, and your neighbor’s loss as your own loss. - Tai Shang Kan Yin P’ien Zoroastrianism That nature alone is good which refrains from doing another whatsoever is not good for itself. - Dadisten-I-dinik, 94,5
