SLOWLY, PRIEST REALIZES CELIBACY WAS A DESTRUCTIVE FORCE And I think thats one of the dangers of obligatory celibacy, that it can lead to self-destructive and outer-destructive behavior. Its a hazardous lifestyle. -- Thomas Groome, author _What Makes Us Catholic_. Priests have known it from the beginning. When mans religions defy the foundational nature of our humanness they become a burden that can lead to serious problems. Such a tradition can not be obligatory. Even in the midst of close quarters in rectories and monasteries, men can suffer all-consuming loneliness. We are intended by our Creator Mother to live in intimate relationships, to share our lives with one we love and work within that intimate relationship to nurture mind, spirit, and body. If the Catholic Church is going to attract young men to the priesthood, they need to seriously rethink the unnatural obligation of celibacy, as it does not lead to a greater connection with the Divine. In fact, it creates an untenable and destructive separation.
