SMILE HAS A POSITION FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE; DEADLINE TO APPLY IS FRIDAY, JANUARY 9 SMILE Community Action Agency has a job opening for an Early Childhood Development Associate at its Head Start/Early Head Start Program. The ECD Associate is responsible for assisting the teacher in organizing and implementing the daily activities performing tasks in accordance with curriculum and other component plans. Work is performed in accordance with agency policies and procedures and established ACF (Administration for Children and Families) guidelines and instructions to achieve maximum delivery of services and application of program regulations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES In absence of teacher, is responsible for direct supervision of the children. Other areas must include but are not limited to the following: • Assists teacher in implementing daily activities. • Assists in the supervision of children at all times. • Assists in observing children’s behavior and writing anecdotal notes. • Follows directions of teacher. • Assists in promoting parent involvement in classroom/home. As directed, assists in implementing all directives, memorandums, and/or instructions pertaining to classroom and/or center operations of the Head Start program. Submits the following to the teacher: • Ideas for lesson plans • Ideas for learning center activities • Ideas for special activities • Any unusual behavior of children MARGINAL DUTIES Serves as an advocate for the Head Start Program. Serves as a role model for parents and volunteers by modeling professional behavior and attitudes conducive to a positive image of Head Start among all stakeholders. Attends meetings, workshops, and conferences as required. Other duties assigned and/or approved by the teacher. EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS High school graduate or a certificate of equivalency is required, plus one (1) year of experience in working with children in a nursery school, kindergarten, day care center, or Head Start. Must be willing to achieve CDA certification and Associate of Art Degree within the specified time schedule. Early Childhood Development Associate will be required to achieve a minimum of twelve (12) hours per year of continuing education credits (CEU) or three (3) credit hours from a college or university per year for continued employment. Hours earned must be in Early Childhood Education/Child Development or a related field. Must be able to perform all essential duties in accordance with the American Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations. Is responsible for continuing the development of skills on own initiative. PROFICIENCY STANDARDS The Early Childhood Development Associate must be able to demonstrate a knowledge of: • Principles of child development and the learning process. • Principles, practices, and objectives of the Head Start program. • Developmentally appropriate practices. • Child Development Associate competency standards. • Ethnic background and heritage of families that the program serves. The Early Childhood Development Associate must possess the following: • Appropriate disposition and temperament to work with young children. • Ability to handle emergencies calmly and unexpected situations smoothly. • Ability to be warm, friendly, and sincere with the children. • Written and verbal communication skills. • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
