SMOKING PENALTIES We recently had a driver get in contact with the training centre concerning his fine..... please see information listed below..... a very expense cigarette!!! Control of ignition sources This clause applies to a road vehicle transporting: (a) a load that contains: (i) dangerous goods in a receptacle with a capacity of more than 500 litres, or (ii) more than 500 kilograms of dangerous goods in a receptacle, and (b) the dangerous goods are UN Division 2.1, UN Class 3, 4 or 5 dangerous goods or dangerous goods that have a subsidiary risk of 2.1, 3, 4 or 5.1. The driver of the road vehicle must not: (a) have matches or a cigarette lighter in his or her possession in the road vehicle, or b) smoke in the road vehicle. Maximum penalty: 40 penalty units = $4,400.00 The driver must do everything practicable to ensure that anyone else in the road vehicle does not: (a) have matches or a cigarette lighter in his or her possession, or (b) smoke. Maximum penalty: 40 penalty units =$4,400.00 Total -$8,800.00 Fine
