SO ON POINT. Since I took a genuine interest in studying Buddhism at the age of 15, I came to the insight that if I really believed in compassion, if I really believed in non-violence, if I really believed in the action of all the Buddhas and the Bodhisattvas how could I ever continue eating meat? It is, as if I am praying to Quan Yin before the altar, Oh great Bodhisattva please watch over me, my family and all other beings thank you. But now I will go to the restaurant across the temple and eat the finest meat. How could we as Buddhist practice compassion while we eat those who the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas want to save? The hypocrites that surrounds the meat eating thing in Buddhism and that it depence upon ones motivation is just bull-shit. How can you have a positive motivation if you are consciously picking up meat in the supermarket instead of the tofu thinking, Oh as long as I did not killed it, its not my karma How could you even take the Bodhisattva path seriously when doing such things? I always go back to something the great scholar Atisha once said: See all living beings as your mother or father, and love them as if you were their child. If we really believe all the beings are our mother beings, if we really believe this. How could we sit down and eat our mother?
