SOAS FORUM Farouk Hussain UBAH the Singapore way looks simpler and yet the underlying change factors are anything but simple. Leave aside the fact that the PAP has been even more active in vote buying, dishing out goodies to the Rakyat - not seen even in the Malaysian context. Two factors loom large. For all the increased internet Noise, the Sg culture is still steep in Confucianism. No running from that. And most poignantly the SG oppo just does not have a relevant conceptualiser. JBJs harking to the politics of the Indian sub-continent is hardly good role model. And the tragedy is compounded as he still has die hard supporters despite him having left the scene for sometime now! So epochally the SG is as ill-prepared as ever. No comfort to the PAP as eventually its the Singaporeans who will suffer the most as the country cannot improve its pol culture and make the leap into the 21st century. They spend time covering up their mistakes - nothing proactive is achieved. POWER becomes more and more cynical. How long will Singaporeans have to live with this whoever is in Power! Sg will remain an Orwellian State whoever is in Power! It does not have the cultural wherewithal to change ! “Are you ready to deal with the consequences if they don’t?” Are you ready to live with this dynasty for another 50 years? Will you be able to look into your children’s eyes in future years and tell them why you said nothing, did nothing when you had the chance? The electoral casino becomes ever so meaningless and corrupting factor in the peoples lives! Judy See Have to differentiate the different phases Sg politics went through. JBJ-Chiam era is well and truely over. PAP should not be allowed to make the oppo remain stuck in that age. Oppo still sometimes cosy as just PAP sparring partners like JBJ and Chiam were. 10 hours ago Like 9 Ricky Loo Oppo got to work doubly harder. 4 hours ago Like 3 Jeffrey Lim And also not all parties are competent and credible,it depends on whos running and managing it,if they have got good leadership qualities and management skills:-) My advise I will give to all parties as a voter would be to work and improve on their branding, managing the party well, set goals and achieve them. And most importantly, being able to connect with the local voters, speak their language(malay would be a bonus!) And understand their daily woes and problems... 7 hours ago · Like · 1 Jeffrey Lim Yes... Thats y im trying to think of a campaign to convince others... Even if it is possible for them to get an eye transplant, they will still be blind. Many are fearful and are unable to overcome their fear however much you try. Many are apathetic. Of course we are ready and have been ready for a long time. The door is right in front. We just need to step through. The choice is yours. 7 hours ago · Like · 4 LikeLike · · Promote · Share David Yc Kam likes this.
