SOUTH WEST SUCCESS AT FIRE AWARENESS AWARDS Congratulations to Phil O’Keefe, Fire Safety Officer – CFA South West, on being a finalist in the 2014 Fire Awareness Awards announced in Melbourne last night. Phil’s Property Advice trailer was designed and built in Victoria’s South West with the fit out carried out by the Coleraine Men’s Shed. Sitting on top of drawers which hold an extensive range of information brochures are scale model house facades. On one side is the well prepared home and garden while the other represents an unprepared property. The trailer is an important demonstration tool for the Property Advice Visit Service (PAVS) and has already clocked-up many, many kilometres to deliver the home preparedness message across the South West region and, at times, beyond. The Fire Awareness Awards program is a collaborative venture between Victoria’s fire agencies – CFA, MFB, DEPI and supported by Emergency Management Victoria. First held in 1983, the Fire Awareness Awards recognises a variety of projects that help to reduce the effect of fires in Victoria. Every year the Awards attract more than 100 entries. The PAVS trailer was in the Community Preparedness category, the strongest category with 25 entries.
